Pros:

  • Comfortable silicone pads
  • Works for a wide variety of lures
  • Floats if dropped in the water
  • Attractive price point

The Rapala Fish Gripper is one of my favorites since I’m particular when it comes to the fish I get and the size. Other grippers tend to be much more fragile and end up breaking and defeating the entire purpose. However, the Rapala Fish Gripper has been designed with comfort in mind for both you and the fish.

The grip is supposed to make it easier once the fish is in your hands, but it can actually be a bit of a hindrance when fishing. The jaws are designed not to be overly tight; however, they do kind of get in the way of the hook. They have rubber covers that prevent them from damage when dropped in the water.

The attached lanyard is great for hook removal and prevents you from having to fumble around for one should you drop it in the water. The float keeps the Gripper afloat if it happens to fall in the water.

The Lip Gripper from Fishing Pliers is a great tool for anglers just getting started. Normally, fishing pliers would refer to a tool that you would use to attach and remove hooks or cut fishing line, but this version is specifically designed to aid in weighing and measuring fish.

These pliers are spring loaded so they provide some bending force to hold larger fish – not out of the question for a beginning fisherman or an angler on the smaller end. The entire device is plastic except for the grip, the spring, and the hook holder.

The hook holder one side of the pliers uses a latch to hold the hook in place so the fish can be released without hurting it. The latch also serves as a release on the other side, for when you need to dislodge a fish you've just caught.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best fish gripper?

The winner of the Best Overall fish lip gripper award for 2019 goes to the Nishiki brand, and it looks nearly identical to our own favorite. It sells for less than a cup of coffee, but is sturdy, tough, and easy to use. The best part is how easy it is to pick up fish without having to get your hands wet and cold.

The bad news is that when we contacted the manufacturer, we were surprised to find out that she has no plans to produce that product any more. We know from experience that the Nishiki is the best for average fisherman and women (like ourselves) with average-sized hands. We contacted several other manufacturers and are waiting for their products to arrive.

We'll write a full report about each product and share our experiences with you on this page as soon as we can.

Do lip grippers hurt fish?

There is a lot of misinformation about fish and lip grippers. In fact, there are online reports about lip grippers being illegal in many states. If you come across a report like this, it's likely misinformation. However, be sure you do your research. If there is a law in your area about using lip grippers, always follow it.

Pointed lip grippers are not illegal, they're actually discouraged by many. This is because they can hurt fish. But it's important to know that many states such as Florida, use lip grippers as part of their fishing seasons. Also, lips grippers are not always used at the start of fishing season so that fish can get used to them. They are only used after a fishing period has been established.

So how do they hurt fish?

How do you use a fish lip gripper?

A fish lip gripper is a rubbery gripping tool that you place onto your lures to make them more slippery when jigging. If you've ever had the misfortune to feel a metal jig about to stick to your lure, then you need a few of them in your fishing bag.

Fish lip grippers are inexpensive and easy to carry in your tackle box, especially when they come on a keychain. Popping one on the lip of your lure when it’s underwater is simple.

What are fish grips?

Fish Grips are a device that you can use while pulling heavy loads such as in a dead lift, or to protect your hands from bar burns. In addition, they can also be used as a replacement to or in combination with wrist straps. If you’re looking for the best for heavy dead lifts, or want to try it before you need it for working out, then choose the best fish gripper for your needs.

In general, fish handles are a great tool for lifting, pulling, or support. If you want to buy one, we highly recommend searching for one with a good user experience (4-5 star reviews), and one that comes with a good instruction guide. You might need to get a little stronger to properly use your fish grippers. Start slow, use some common sense and you'll be on your way.

Conclusion

By knowing these 5 best fish lip gripers, you’ll have the power to buy the first time and get more satisfaction out of your fishing. There are many types of fish lip grippers out there, so knowing about what to look for can help you get the perfect lip grip for your needs.

Fishing is one of the most satisfying hobbies that you can pursue. Whether you fish for recreation or for food, it’s a great way to see the world around you.
